I believe this is partly because we finally got a black box label against using SSRI antidepressants for individuals up to age 24.

My son was killed by Zyprexa, back before there were warnings of any sort, or clues as to what hyperglycemia might look like. I will go to my grave fighting the pharmaceutical industry. 100,000 Americans each year , innocents all, die of prescription drugs.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16910837.post-25312886687430538962007-05-17T20:20:00.000-04:002007-05-17T20:20:00.000-04:00Good for you Ally! He has some "mood issues" but they are very minor - no violence or anything of the sort - just frustration etc...the last doc we took him to prescribed Risperdal. I did my research and found out about Tardive Dyskinesia and Dystonia (the drug-induced movement disorders mentioned in the article). I was never told about this by the doctor even when I asked him point blank about side effects. Who was he to decide that it was irrelevant information to pass on to a mother? I was infuriated. I took the Risperdal back to the pharmacy for disposal. I am thankful I never administered this anti-psychotic to my son.

The moral of the story??? Do your homework moms and dads - don't just blindly accept what a doctor says because of the title. Do your own risk/benefit analysis and make a fully informed and educated decision.

For my son, Risperdal was a sledge hammer solution to a very minor emotional problem.Allyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10842742519426935726noreply@blogger.com
