Therapist forced to give up license
An Odessa mental health counselor gave up his license after state officials accused him of having a sexual relationship with a patient, records show. Alan E. Kennedy, 19127 Gunn Highway, agreed never to apply for a license again from the Board of Clinical Social Work. Board documents said Kennedy treated a patient identified only as "MS" in the early 1990s.
The patient sought treatment from him again in January 2001 to address past sexual abuse. In January or February, the documents say, Kennedy and the patient had sexual relations in his home and car. Under Florida law, therapists can be disciplined for sexual misconduct - and charged with a felony. State Department of Health officials referred the case to the State Attorney's Office in Hillsborough County, which did not charge him.
